The members of the newly constituted Fourth Finance Commission were in the city on Monday to gather documents and information about the functioning of various departments of the Municipal Corporation and the UT Administration. The members also sought the previous finance commission reports.

The Second Finance Commission had recommended that house tax should be imposed in the city. Officials said documents had been sought by the members and after assessing these, recommendations would be made.

The civic body gets 17.5 per cent of the taxes collected in the city. With new departments including primary health, primary education, horticulture and additional roads being transferred to the MC,it is expected that the share would increase.

Officials said the powers and functions of the departments would be assessed after analysing the feedback, and the recommendations would be based on the resources and the requirement of funds.

While preliminary data was collected by the members on Monday, over the next few weeks a few more meetings are expected to be held.
