Shiromani Akali Dal councillor Harjinder Kaur on Tuesday alleged that the municipal corporation was working against the directions of Administration. She submitted a representation with the Mayor and Municipal Commissioner, stating that despite a ban on the laying of paver blocks by the Administration, the civic body officials were doing the same in a part of her ward.

The issue came up after Harjinder Kaur saw paver blocks being laid in three lanes in Sector 35-D. She claims that prior to this, two agenda items for her ward to lay paver blocks had been rejected. This was done after the directions of the UT Administration not to install more paver blocks.

Harjinder Kaur says that she was never taken into confidence over the issue and the MC was adopting a pick-and-choose policy. “Just to please a few, work is undertaken by the officers. There is a need for having a policy in place. I have asked the Mayor and Commissioner that a discussion on the policy be held in the meeting of the General House. I complained to the Commissioner about what was happening and thereafter the officials stalled the work. But why was it started in the first place?,” she said.

The SAD councillor stated that there is no system in place in the MC and officers function at their whims. The work was allegedly undertaken at the behest of nominated councillor Major D S Sandhu (Retd) who resides in the sector.

The tussle between the two councillors is ongoing. Recently during the Teej celebrations when Harjinder Kaur invited the Mayor for the event,he did not attend due to the same reason.
