MC,govt dept workers slam UT,raise demands

Employees of the Union Territory and municipal corporation on Tuesday staged a protest against the UT Administration for failing to meet their long-pending demands. The protest was held near electricity office,Sector 17,organised under the banner of Federation of UT Employees and Workers,Chandigarh.

Employees of departments of electricity and Water supply,transport,municipal corporation,UT Secretariat,housing board,DC Office,horticulture,forest,health,among others,participated in the protest.

The demands includes releasing of DA installment at the rate of eight per cent with effect from January 1,2013,linked as per price index and not linked with any pay scale.

The federation also registered their protest against the imposition of Section 144 by Administration when ever they try to protest,saying that it is done with the intention of curbing the voice of workers.

Those protesting also criticised the Administration for not allowing the appointment of the next kin of the deceased employee and demanded regularisation of daily wage workers. Other demands included filling of vacant posts and allotment of flats to all eligible UT employees under UT employees self financing housing scheme.
