Sleuths of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday nabbed an employee of Municipal Corporation,Chandigarh demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 6,000. The accused,Sukhdev Sharma,a clerk is posted in the department of Public Health,Municipal Corporation.

The complainant (name withheld) had approached the CBI alleging that Sharma had demanded an illegal gratification of Rs 6,000 for issuing him a water connection.

According to the complainant,the accused kept his application pending for more than a month and did not issue him the connection. When the complainant approached Sharma,he was asked to pay Rs 6000.

Acting on the complaint,CBI sleuths laid a trap and caught Sharma red-handed on Wednesday. He was arrested from his office in Sector 37 in Chandigarh.

Sharma will be produced before a local Court on

Thursday.
