The UT Administration on Thursday announced a compensation of Rs 18.75 lakh per acre for the acquisition of land in Manimajra for the Phase III construction of the Rajiv Gandhi Chandigarh Technology Park.
The landowners, however, were a disgruntled lot after the announcement.
The compensation was announced today for the remaining 168 acres as awards for 104 acres (of the total 272 acres) had already been announced in March 2008.
The Manimajra Farmers Welfare and Environment Protection Society termed the move as anti-farmer,anti-poor and a vindictive stance of the Administrator.
The members questioned the urgency of the announcement when the entire matter is still sub judice and under the CVC probe.

The interests of the people have not been safeguarded. The members will continue their fight against corruption and sheer injustice.
President of the society H S Johl, meanwhile, apprised that a delegation had met Finance Secretary Sanjay Kumar on Thursday and informed him that the Parliament is in the process of passing the new land acquisition legislations and hence, the new Act is going to replace the existing Land Acquisition Act.
The officials of the UT Administration, meanwhile informed that the Bills are yet to become Acts. The provisions will become applicable when these become Acts, officials stated.
