Imagine the plight of a patient on an operation theatre table and suddenly the oxygen supply to the patient through the cylinder runs out! This has been happening at the Government Hospital,Manimajra from the past several days. This scary truth along with many other such details came to light when an inspection team reached the hospital on Thursday.
Sources in the Health department say that when a team of officials reached today to the hospital, they were told that the hospital has run out of oxygen. However, when the officials probed the reasons,it was revealed that from the past many days, the same oxygen cylinders which were earlier enabling 2-3 surgeries in the Operation theatres, were not even lasting during one. As a result there was a severe shortage of oxygen supply for patients.
On an average, there are about five to six surgeries performed at the hospital in various departments such as gynecology, orthopedics, general surgery etc. In the operation theatre, the patient is supplied oxygen attached to a cylinder.
There are only two possibilities. Either the supplier had been deliberately providing cylinders with less oxygen or someone here is taking out oxygen from the cylinders. These days there are sophisticated gadgets using which one can actually take out gas, said one of the doctors one conditions of anonymity.
When contacted Medical Superintendent Dr Rajiv Vadera said, It is a very serious matter and there is no question on compromising on the healthcare of the patients. We have sought an explanation from the supplier on the issue and the matter is being sorted out on priority.
As of now,the Government Hospital,Manimajra is a 50 bedded hospital and its up-gradation to a 100 bedded hospital is currently in progress.
A grant of Rs 75 lakh has been sanctioned this year and the health department is in the process of upgrading the infrastructure of the hospital by adding more departments and diagnostic facilities so that the patients have nearby access to healthcare.
