Manav Mangal paddlers shine

Paddlers of Manav Mangal School,Sector 11,Panchkula brought laurels to school by winning titles in three categories (boys' Under 14,boys' Under 17 and girls' Under 17) out of the four in which they took part in during the District School Table Tennis Championship

PANCHKULA: Paddlers of Manav Mangal School,Sector 11,Panchkula brought laurels to school by winning titles in three categories (boys’ Under 14,boys’ Under 17 and girls’ Under 17) out of the four in which they took part in during the District School Table Tennis Championship held at Manav Mangal School,Sector 11,Panchkula,on July 26 and 27. The competitions were organised by the District Education Department,Panchkula. A total of 150 paddlers from different schools of Panchkula,participated in this tournament. Meanwhile,11 paddlers out of 15 from Manav Mangal School,have been selected for the Haryana State School Games to be held at Bhiwani in August. In the boys’ section (U-14 and U-17),Manav Mangal beat Bhavan Vidayalaya 3-2,whereas in girls’ Under 17,the eves outplayed Bhavan Vidyalaya 3-1. Also,Bhavan Vidyalaya captured three titles out of six categories in the tournament.

Mount Carmel-47 gets off to winning start

Chandigarh: Animesh ensured that Mount Carmel School,Sector 47,got off to a great start as he smashed an unbeaten 37 runs to steer the team to an easy 17-run win over Ajit Karam Singh International Public School (AKSIPS),Sector 41,in the opening match of the 5th St Joseph’s Under-12 Junior Championship held at St Joseph’s School,Sector 44. It was Mount Carmel-47 who batted first and mustered 106 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. Animesh played a quickfire and entertaining knock of 37 runs. Jashan chipped in with 18 runs. For AKSIPS-41,Varun was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up three wickets for 19 runs. Chasing the target,AKSIPS-41 were restricted to 89 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Tuhin top scored with 14 runs. Anthil bagged two wickets for Mount Carmel-47.

Meanwhile,in another match,Chandigarh Baptist School,Sector 45,recorded a hard-fought two-run win over St Kabir School,Sector 26,in a nail-biting encounter. Chandigarh Baptist-45 won the toss and batted first. Knocks from Abhinav (19) and Vipul (17) helped the team score 102 runs for the loss of three wickets in 20 overs. For St kabir-26,Gurman took two wickets for 24 runs. In reply,St Kabir School,Sector 26 batsmen lost steam and agonisingly fell short of the target by two runs as they were shot out for 100 runs in 19.3 overs.
