Man gets 10-year RI for death of senior citizen

The court of additional district and sessions judge Amit Sharma on Thursday sentenced a man to ten-year rigorous imprisonment for the death of a senior citizen. The court sentenced three co-accused to five years rigorous imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the prime accused and Rs 5,000 each on the co-accused.

Vishal,23,the prime accused along with Ajay,23,Ganesh,26,and Pramod,31,were held guilty for culpable homicide not amounting to murder for causing the death of a 60-year-old Morni resident under Section 304 Part II of the Indian Penal Code.

The four were consuming alcohol on the footsteps of the Jwalamata temple in Morni on September 16,2012. The priest of the temple Dhuni Chand tried to stop them. The argument took an ugly turn and the old man,a retired Haryana Forest Department employee was attacked.

While the other three held Dhuni Chand,Vikram beat him up with the rod. Chand was rushed to a Primary Health Centre in Morni. Before the incident,the four were involved in a scuffle at a liquor vend. Chand succumbed to head injuries and was declared brought dead at General Hospital,Sector 6 Panchkula. Sohan Lal,the deceased’s brother,was an eyewitness in the case. The convicts were arrested the same day at Morni T-Point.
