The Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) ‘Punjab jodo rally in Malerkotla saw a large number of protesters wearing AAP caps were seen raising slogans against the party’s Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann. Malerkotla happens to be under the parliamentary constituency of Mann.

The rally was scheduled to begin at 7.30 pm but was delayed because of the protesters at the gate of the rally venue. They were carrying banners of ‘Sikh Muslim front’ and its leader Vasim Sheikh said, “We are protesting against Bhagwant Mann because he never came to listen to our grievances and even did not reply to our letters in which we had sent him details of certain development projects.”

AAP leaders, however, alleged that the protesters were sent by SAD as they were jittery after seeing the response to AAP rallies. Bachan Bedil, media adviser to Mann, said, “Men wearing AAP caps are actually SAD supporters. They were not even allowing our supporters to enter the rally venue.”

Sheikh, however, said, “Mann should visit the city and see what its development needs are. The public who voted in his favour is angry with him. So they have come to lodge their protest.”
