The city unit of the Congress criticised the Union Budget 2014-15, while it was welcomed by the BJP.

Local BJP leaders congratulated Arun Jaitley on a ‘visionary, development-oriented’ budget. Live coverage of budget was organised by the BJP CA Cell alongwith the Economic Cell at the party office Kamlam in Sector 33-A. The meeting was presided over by local BJP president Sanjay Tandon.

Members termed it a socio-economic budget. The special initiatives like advance ruling for resident taxpayers, initiatives in transfer pricing, relaxation in FDI for defence and insurance sectors, development of Amritsar as a heritage city, educational development were highly praised. Sanjay Tandon termed it sabka sath, sabka vikas and said that the budget has taken the country a step forward.

On the other hand, B B Bahl, President of CTCC and the spokesman Pradeep Chhabra criticised the budget terming it as manipulation of the digits in which nothing new has been introduced. He said, the budget has proved to be a mere joke for city residents.

Chhabra added that this ineffective budget showed inability and the lack of vision and interest of the local MP Kirron Kher. He also said that with the non increase in budget, there won’t be any new projects in the city and the ones already under construction will be adversely affected. Bahl urged Kirron Kher to be serious about the needs and sentiments of the city.
