‘Link NREGA and rural industrialisation’

Jalandhar: Expressing concern over the pitiable condition of small scale farmers in Punjab,Dr Sardara Singh Johal — former vice-chancellor of Punjabi University in Patiala and former vice-chairman state Planning Commission — said there is lack of concrete policy pertaining to agriculture in the state that is causing a disparity between small and big farmers. Speaking in a seminar on “Role of High Potential Agriculture in Polarization of Rural Economy of Punjab State”,Johal suggested several measures,including linking of MNREGA with the policy of rural industrialisation,to help small time farmers.

NTPC engineering college in Bilaspur

Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government has signed an MoU with the National Thermal Power Corporation for setting up an engineering college in Bilaspur. “The college will be set up at a cost of Rs 100 crore and NTPC will contribute Rs 37.5 crore,” a senior official said.

Manali-Leh Road may open by mid-April

Shimla: Braving the chill and snow accumulated on Manali-Leh Highway,the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has set a target of opening the road for traffic by April 15. The vehicular movement on the road had been suspended since December 08,2011after heavy snowfall in the upper areas of the state.
