As the hope of compensation diminishes for Shravan, the labourer who lost his wife, daughter and also his leg in the Sector-20 wall collapse last year, the Deputy Commissioner,Panchkula,Rajender Kataria said on Tuesday that his case has been forwarded to the Haryana Social Welfare department. Shravan is yet to be awarded a compensation of Rs 4 lakh that was announced by the Panchkula Administration immediately after the incident.

The DC,however, expressed his doubts over Shravan’s case. “Though we have offered Shravan to stay at the Sector-15 old age home and have offered him ration to fulfill his daily requirements, providing the compensation is slightly difficult due to policy matters,” said Kataria.

Explaining the ‘hurdles’ for Shravan in receiving his compensation, the DC said: “In case of any natural calamity like the wall collapse that killed his wife and daughter and made him handicapped for life, any compensation can be given only to the domicile of Haryana, which he does not possess as of now.”

Kataria added that despite the case having been forwarded to the State Social Welfare Department, the response is awaited.

Shravan, meanwhile,is busy collecting his old medical bills, hoping that the authorities will reimburse them.

“For the last so many days,I have been busy collecting and arranging my medical bills with a hope that they will be reimbursed by the Administration,” said Shravan. He said he will approach the Secretary,Red Cross,Sector 15,today with the bills even though he had failed to meet her on two occasions previously.

On July 12 last year,Shravan’s wife Shanti (32) and daughter Anshu (4) had died on the spot while he along with his son Akhilesh (9) were left seriously injured after a wall near the Sector-20 grain market collapsed on their hutment.
