Kirron Kher hands over keys to shopkeepers of Old Books Market in Chandigarh

Chandigarh Member of Parliament Kirron Kher, Saturday handed over keys to the shopkeepers of the newly built Old Books Market in Sector 15A. Other important guests at the event were Arun Sood, Mayor; Hardeep Singh, Deputy Mayor; Saurabh Joshi, area councilor; NP Sharma, Chief Engineer; Kapil Setia, Chief Architect; and other councilors.

While addressing the gathering, Kirron Kher lauded the efforts of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation for not only providing basic amenities to the city residents but also providing shelters to the small businessmen who are earning bread for their families through selling small daily-use items including old books, which are also very useful and economical to the students of different classes.

She said that the municipal corporation recently completed the survey of street vendors under the Street Vendors Act and by this initiative, the rehri-phari owners will earn their daily bread with honor and nobody will disturb them for doing their business.

Giving information about the shops, the Mayor said that there are 36 shops having 6’x8’ size with width of 8’-6” corridors have been built in 3120 sq ft area at a cost of Rs 58.65 lakh with provision of toilet blocks and sufficient parking have been allotted to the genuine old books shopkeepers. He said that this was a long pending demand of these shopkeepers and now they got justice by getting these booths.

He said that the work of community centre has also been completed and will be dedicated to the local residents very soon.
