In A bizarre incident,a patient sent by the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) to Government Multi Speciality Hospital,Sector 16 for post-operative care refused to leave the hospital.

According to doctors, the patient,24-year-old Sunil,a resident of Sector 52,was brought to Government Multi Speciality Hospital,Sector 16 in October 2011 after he had undergone a surgery at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research as he had suffered a head injury. Later on,PGI doctors asked him to shift to Government Multi Speciality Hospital,Sector 16 for posts operative care.

Now,his family members citing reasons that they do not have any place at home to keep him, have refused to take him home. Further, when the doctors gave him a discharge slip, his family refused to accept it and allegedly started threatening the doctors and the nursing staff.

Following the ruckus, the doctors and nursing staff gave a written complaint to the Medical Superintendent-cum-Official Director Health Services against the behaviour of the family members.

When contacted,Dr Rajiv Vadhera said,“We are looking into the matter and if need be we will constitute a medical board to confirm that the patient should be discharged or not.”

Family members allegedly hurled abuses at the nursing staff and doctors when they tried to convince them that the patient needs a homely environment and would recover better at home owing to risk of getting infections at the hospital.
