The family members of a Sector 20 resident who was killed after he was allegedly hit by a bike, gathered outside the Sector 19 police station Saturday, accusing the police of inaction.

Surinder Pal, 51, was hit by a rashly driven bike near Dhobi Ghat in Sector 20-C Friday. The accused rider, Mohit Kumar, was arrested and released on bail.
“My father had gone to the market when he was hit by a bike. The rider, who is the son of a policeman, was drunk and racing with another bike rider,” said Varun Thakur, son of the deceased.

An injured Pal was taken to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32, from where he was referred to PGI, said his family members. At PGI, he was declared brought dead.

The family members said that the police were not cooperating with them. “They were not ready to give us a copy of the FIR. But they relented when we protested outside the police station,” said a relative of Pal. “In the FIR copy, they had written an incorrect registration number of the bike.”

On Saturday, Pal’s family members kept his body outside the police station. The police tried to pacify the protesters, but to no avail. It was only when the father of the accused was called to the police station and the police assured the family members of action that they left.
