Almost a year after the kidnapping and murder of 5-year-old Khushpreet,Chandigarh police has reduced the services of its three officers from four to two years for being guilty of negligence.
The three whose service had been forfeited include then Station House Officer (SHO) of the Sector 34 police station,Inspector Udaypal Singh; Inspector Narinder Patial and sub-inspector (SI) Balraj Singh,who were both then posted with Burail police post.
After a departmental probe found the trio guilty of negligence,we forfeited their services, said Inspector General of Police,Chandigarh,P K Srivastava. The forfeit order was issued almost a month ago and it is a major punishment to the three.
The service of inspector Udaypal was forfeited for four years (his service has been reduced by four years),while services of Patial and Singh were forfeited for two years each. The trio who were reinstated in July last year by the Chandigarh police,will also not get any benefits for the years their service has been forfeited. They will also not be deputed on any public posts.
Khushpreet of Burail,was kidnapped on December 21,2010 and his body was recovered on January 5,2011 near the UT-Mohali border. The family blamed police for the negligence and shoddy investigations in the case.
UT police later suspended Inspector Uday Pal Singh,Patial and Singh after a probe by then Sub Divisional Magistrate M L Sharma,held the three guilty of negligence and dereliction of duty. Almost 3 months after the murder,police arrested two accused.
