The Chandigarh Police on Monday arrested a neighbour, who is a juvenile, for the kidnapping and murder of the minor girl of colony number 4 whose naked body was found near a nullah in the forest area on Saturday.

SP (East) Parvinder Singh said, “Prima facie only the juvenile seems to be involved, but investigation is still on.” The post mortem report of the girl, which became available on Monday, listed 10 injuries, including some on the private parts, besides bite marks on the left thigh, and marks of assault and strangulation.
While the case was registered under Section 302 (murder), 364 (kidnapping or abduction in order to murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code, the police have added Section 376 (rape) and Section 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection ofChildren against Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act to the case in view of the injuries. Police said the juvenile, during preliminary questioning, said that he killed the girl to take revenge against her father. He said that on the day of Holi, his cousin Ram Janam had a quarrel with the father and uncle of the girl. When he intervened, he was beaten up, the juvenile told the police. Originally, he had planned to kill the father and the uncle of the girl, but did not succeed. In frustration, he kidnapped and killed the girl, the SP said.
The police did not say if the juvenile admitted having raped the girl. However, it has detained four persons for questioning, including Ram Janam.
The girl’s father said the police had not informed him about the latest developments. However, he admitted that he had “a scuffle” with Ram Janam on Holi and had slapped the juvenile when he intervened. “He knows us and lives near the jungle area. He used to visit my uncle, but never visited us,” said the father.
The girl’s mother, who is six-month pregnant, remains inconsolable and has refused to eat anything. “How could someone do such a brutal thing to a child. I want the same death for her killer,” she said.
Meanwhile, Kirron Kher, local MP met the family at her office. Danish Ashraf, SDM (East), who was also present, said that the state legal service authority had been asked to decide compensation for the family as per rules and this would be disbursed in a few days. He said giving a government job to the girl’s father, who has a house-keeping job at Elante Mall, was under consideration.
