The month of June 2012 has been the hottest the city has felt in the last six years. According to Chandigarh Meteorological Department,June has recorded the highest temperature so far.
With city residents battling with scorching heat,respite seems a distant dream. Officials of Meteorological Department predict that temperatures are likely to increase with no rains predicted for the city until June 20.
Temperature of 45.1 degrees celcius was recorded on June 1,the maximum June has recorded in the past six years and the mercury has remained relatively steady.
June was a much cooler experience in 2011,with Junes lowest day temperature at 28.6 degrees celcius. The maximum June temperatute was recorded at 39.4 degrees celcius.
Surinder Pal,Director of Chandigarh Meteorological Department said that the lack of rain is to blame for the high rise in temperature,However,a change in the direction of winds,north-western to south-western,is expected to bring moisture along. This will help to control the temperature in the coming days, said Pal.
