Journalists of leading Hindi daily attacked at Punjab IG’s residence

The Chandigarh Press club on Monday expressed serious concern over the attack on two journalists of the Hindi daily Dainik Bhaskar at the residence of the Inspector General of Punjab Police,V K Garg.

The Chandigarh Press club on Monday expressed serious concern over the attack on two journalists of the Hindi daily Dainik Bhaskar at the residence of the Inspector General of Punjab Police,V K Garg. The Press Club took stern note of the incident in which Dainik Bhaskar reporter,Amit Sharma,and the newspaper’s photographer,Ashok Kumar were attacked.

The duo had gone to do a story on the security personnel of the IG having raised the camp on a public land,but they alleged that they were manhandled. Later media persons assembled outside the residence of the IG in Sector 7 and sought police action in the matter. They staged a sit-in outside the residence which continued till late into the afternoon.

President of Chandigarh Press Club,Sukhbir Singh Bajwa,criticised the action against two journalists. The Press Club in a statement said that the two were caught and man handled at the residence of V K Garg,IGP,Punjab Police,by his henchmen.

The president and the members of the governing council of the club urged the chief ministers of Punjab and Haryana and Director Generals of Police of these states to look into the matter and punish the guilty officer at the earliest.
