You were considered very close to Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Why has such an action been taken against you?

[Punjab Congress President] Amarinder [Singh] has lied to the high command. He wrote to them that he had intelligence input and reports that I was going to join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) at their Baisakhi rally in Talwandi Sabo on April 13. He advised them to pre-empt my move and expel me instead as it would otherwise damage the party. The fact is I am not going to join any political party. He will be exposed on Wednesday when I will not be joining any party.

Will you clarify your position to the high command?

The Congress is a closed chapter for me now. All bridges with them have been burnt. They did not even give me the courtesy of a hearing. All this is history. Chapter closed.

If it is true that they just acted on Amarinder’s input, is it fair on their part not to hear your side of story?

They have acted as per their wisdom. It is a miscalculated move.

Do you regret giving four decades of your life to the party?

I have no regrets. I had a difference of opinion on certain issues. It was a conspiracy hatched by my political opponents.

But why did they get taken in?

I had thought they would give me a chance. They could have taken any action had I failed to convince them. I had never thought I would not be heard. They have severed the head of a dedicated soldier of the party. I did not know Amarinder would be writing to them and giving them wrong information. They fell into his trap. He misled them.

What are the Congress and Amarinder’s prospects in 2017?

Amarinder is a rakshash (demon). He got my head severed during the navratras. My curse will fell this demon. When he returns from his foreign tour after a month, the scenario in Punjab will change. Even BSP will cross the Congress party in number of votes. He and [Deputy Chief Minister] Sukhbir [Singh Badal] issued similar statements on Monday that I committed suicide but I want to tell them that Gentlemen, it is you who have murdered me. I am a victim of their nexus.

What is your message for Capt Amarinder?

He should have resigned by now when his wife [Preneet Kaur] and son’s [Raninder Singh’s] names were linked to the Swiss bank accounts case. I respected him as an elder brother. I never nurtured any bitterness towards him. But he could not give me any respect in return as a younger brother. We fell apart especially on issues. He has to learn to treat everyone else with respect.

What are your future plans?

I am not joining any party. I have never ever met Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal or BJP chief Amit Shah. I have bumped into Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the Lok Sabha lobby a number of times in the past but never even seen Amit Shah. I am meeting my people on May 21. They will advise me on the future course of action. It is not about any outfit but I will seek suggestions from them on how to intensify the campaign against rajwadashahi (royalty), dynasty, drugs, agrarian crisis, the fiscal health of the state and the desecration incidents.

Any farewell note for your colleagues?

I am thankful to all senior Dalit leaders of the party including Mohinder Singh Kaypee, Shamsher Singh Dullo, Santokh Chaudhary, Charanjit Singh Channi and Sardul Singh for not signing the petition against me to the high command. They have proved to be true Raghrete Guru ke Bete.
