The issue of installation of Reliance Jio towers again raked up in the District Advisory Committee meeting on Tuesday. One of the member s of the advisory committee said that the company was installing the towers without taking permission from the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA).
Vineet Verma, who is a member of the advisory committee, told Chandigarh Newsline that he had raised the issue of the towers which are being installed in residential areas and asked the officers of GMADA and the administration about the rules.
According to him, there is no clarity within GMADA and the administration about who had allowed Reliance to install the towers.
Executive Engineer of GMADA Sanjeev Gupta said that he had only submitted the feasibility report of the sites where the towers could be installed and had nothing to do with the permissions grantedto Reliance. Permission was granted by the administration.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Amandeep Kaur, who was also present in the meeting, said that the permission was given during the tenure of Poonamdeep Kaur, who was the then additional deputy commissioner.
Verma alleged that there was confusion still whether Reliance was allowed to install the towers or not.
He also said that he would, along with other members of Residents Welfare Associations (RWA), protest against installation of towers inside parks as it’s radiation is harmful to the people.
