Ordering an inquiry to investigate into a case under the Narcotic,Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act registered against an African national,Cyril,who was arrested by the UT Police on March 6.
We are not sure about the involvement of any police officials and hence I have ordered a probe in the case to the DSP,CID Anil Joshi. If the inquiry reveals anything against any police official,requisite action will be taken, said the UT IGP,R P Upadhyaya.
The cell phone details of the accused has revealed the numbers of two police officers. However,the involvement of the two officers has not been ascertained yet. As per the sources in the UT Police Department,the contact list in Cyrils phone and the call details revealed numbers of two police officers. The two were also made to visit the Industrial Area Police Station and record their statements.
Apart from this,names of children belonging to influential families have appeared in the contact list. The police on Tuesday recorded statements of nearly 15 persons in the police stations whose numbers were shortlisted.
35-year-old Nigerian,Cyril,was nabbed with 43 grams of cocaine,and his call details revealed that he was in constant touch with the persons who were called and two of the cops. Cyril,who was also called Sunny and Tony was seen many times with a police official and one of his friends in the city discos.
Another Nigerian arrested with cocaine
UT Police on Wednesday arrested another Nigerian who was carrying cocaine. Samson,a native of Benine city at Edo State,Nigeria,was arrested by the UT Police Wednesday and 5 grams of cocaine worth Rs 20,000 in the international market was recovered from him.
At a naka near Railway Station,Daria village,Samson was noticed by the police trying to turn back and flee. The police then chased him and arrested him. On checking,5 grams of cocaine was recovered. According to the police sources,Samson came to India in December last year and has been living in Delhi.
