With Punjab Governor Shivraj Patil reportedly clearing the appointment of four information commissioners on Thursday,the Punjab Information Commission may now have seven such officers.
The Chief Information Commissioner RI Singh said that he was verbally told by the officials at the Raj Bhawan that the Governor has cleared the file pertaining to appointment of four new information commissioners and sent it to the state government.
I have been verbally conveyed the orders in this regard but the file has not yet come to me. Once it comes,then we will decide on holding the swearing in ceremony, Singh said.
In a break from the tradition,the CIC has been told to administer the oath of office to the new information commissioners. Earlier,the governor used to administer the oath.
The state government had recommended four names Surinder Avasthi (a journalist),Narinderjit Singh (retired IAS officer),Ravinder Negi and Harinder Singh Mann (lawyer) for appointment as information commissioners. The file was sent to the Governor on December 23.
