Haryana panel to rehabilitate women victims of acid attacks

Haryana government on Wednesday constituted a state-level committee under the chairpersonship of the women and child development minister.

To ensure women acid victims receive relief and are rehabilitated,the Haryana government on Wednesday constituted a state-level committee under the chairpersonship of the women and child development minister.

After an FIR is lodged in an acid attack case,the concerned deputy commissioners or sub-divisional magistrates will provide Rs 25,000 to the victim in the hospital. Moreover,the government will also provide 100 per cent reimbursement for the treatment of the victim,including plastic surgery,provided the surgery was undertaken at PGIMS (Rohtak),or PGIMER (Chandigarh) and AIIMS (New Delhi).

All girls and women residing in Haryana will be eligible for the scheme provided an application was filed either by the victim or on her behalf.

The committee will not only ensure proper disbursement of the funds allotted under the scheme and any additional amount to be supplemented by the state government to the district committees,but will also issue directions to the appropriate authorities to ensure proper medical,psychological and legal assistance to the victim. The Committee will approve medical reimbursement before providing financial relief.

Moreover,if any acid victim needs rehabilitation services,she could seek the support from seven Swadhar shelter homes functioning in the state. These include — Modern Education Society (Kharkhoda,Sonepat) Adarsh Rural Development Society (Kadarpur,Gurgaon),Akhil Bhartiya Nav Yuvak Kala Samgham (Bhiwani),Society of All Around Human Development (Bahadurgarh,Jhajjar),Mata Sita Rani Sewa Sansthan (Panipat),Bharat Vikas Sangh (Rohtak) and Haryana Nav Yuvak Kala Sangham (Rohtak).

The other members of the committee will include financial commissioner and principal secretary (Women and Child Development),financial commissioner and principal secretary (Health),financial commissioner and principal secretary (Social Justice and Empowerment),financial commissioner and principal secretary (Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Department). The director of Women and Child Development Department will be the member secretary of the committee.
