A 45-member mountaineering expedition team comprising of 41 students from 19 Sainik schools and four staff members was flagged off from Haryana Raj Bhawan by Jagannath Pahadia,Haryana Governor,for an expedition to Ladakhi Peak (5342 mts) in Manali region of Himachal Pradesh. The expedition is being led by JS Gulia,an ace mountaineer and former student of Sainik School,Kunjpura and he will be assisted by Anurag Semwal and Shushi Verma. The expedition will be of 20 days and the group will attempt the climb in an alpine style.
Activities like mountaineering enhance the self confidence of the youngsters,who would aspire to serve the nation as soldiers in the future. We wish these students good luck for their expedition, stated Pahadia. The group will set up the base camp at a height of 12,500 ft at Beas Kund and the students will be then trained in snow and ice crafting training which will also include glacier walking,step making,crevasse rescue,crampon walking,rescue operation and front point climbing. Two camps will be set before the final climb from the new gulley route.
Meanwhile,the Haryana Sports and Youth Affairs Department has appointed Krida Shir in 2476 villages and 48 blocks in the state under Panchayat Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA) scheme. Sports kits worth Rs One Lakh will also be provided in these village to get training in sports. Apart from this,one basketball poll,one volleyball poll,four basketball nets,three volleyball nets,footballs and weight training sets will also be provided to the villages. The state government has also enhanced the honorarium being given to the trainers and Krida Shri in sports complexes from Rs 500 to Rs 3000.
