Golf Club: Sandhu wins sixth term as president

Former IAS officer Gurinder Singh Sandhu on Monday won election to the president’s post of the Chandigarh Golf Club with a margin of 53 votes.

Former IAS officer Gurinder Singh Sandhu on Monday won election to the president’s post of the Chandigarh Golf Club with a margin of 53 votes.

Sandhu got 594 votes while his opponent Tejvir Singh Sebia got 541 votes in the elections held on Sunday. This will be Sandhu’s second successive term and,overall,sixth term as the president of the club. Last year,he had won with a lead of 400 votes over his competitor Lt Col (retd) J S Panag.

“I am happy that I have won the elections for the sixth time. It will be my second successive term as president of the club,and I am looking forward to the assignment. It was a close win but we are happy that the elections were held without any protests or hassles. Our main focus will be on solving the club’s lease issue apart from improving the infrastructure of the club. We will also try to improve the facilities offered to the members and organise more tournaments at the club,” he told Chandigarh Newsline.

Sandhu said their focus would also be on transparency. “Members are concerned about this issue and we will also focus on this issue,” he added.

The counting for the 11 posts of the management committee was still going on till the filing of the report; it was expected to finish late on Monday night.

A club official said the counting was still going on and the results would be put on the noticeboard on Tuesday. “The counting is still going on for other posts and the results will be out later in the night. The complete results will be out on the noticeboard on Tuesday morning and the members will soon join their office,” he added.
