Led by impressive knock of 42 runs by Avneet,Guru Nanak Public School,Setcor 36,recorded a four-wicket win over Mount Carmel School,Sector 47,in the opening match of the 5th Ashok Kumar Memorial cricket tournament conducted under the aegis of CCA-PCA at the GNPS,Sector 36,grounds in Chandigarh on Wednesday. Mount Carmel team was bowled out for 144 runs in 26 overs. Sarab scored a superb knock of 63 runs for Mount Carmel. But the bowling duo of Amit (3 for 11) and Ayushman (3 for 27) halted the run-flow and grabbed three wickets each. In reply,GNPS team achieved the target in 29.4 overs,losing six wickets. Avneet (42,) andYuvraj Rai (33) were the chief architects of the GNPS innings.
In the second match of the day, Coaching Centre,Sector 32,beat KK Academy by eight wickets. Batting first,KK Academy posted a total of 98 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 30 overs. Deepak (38) emerged as the top-scorer for KK Academy. For CC-32,Yugam bowled well to scalp three wickets. Batting second,Coaching Centre-32 got to the target in 19 overs,at the cost of two wickets. Ishan scored 35 runs for the winning team.
