GMSSS-46,first government school to have a solar plant

Advisor to Administration (UT),K K Sharma,inaugurated a 50 KW solar photovoltaic power plant on the rooftop of the Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 46,on Tuesday – the school’s Eco-club day.

With this,GMSSD,Sector-46,has become the first government school in Chandigarh to posses a solar plant.,“The whole school will run on this solar plant which will help reduce the electricity bill by 75 per cent. It is a great initiative by Science and Technology department. Our school was also the first among all government schools in the city to have a rain water harvesting unit,” Principal Sudesh Raghav said.

The plant has been installed at a total cost of Rs 81.49 lakh. The installation has been executed through CREST (Chandigarh Renewal Energy,Science & Technology Promotion Society).

A ceremonial function on behalf of Forest and Wildlife department was also organised at the school. The function was attended by Upkar Singh DPI(S),NGO’s and resident welfare associations.
