Cash of over Rs 1 crore and jewellery worth over Rs 30 lakh have been recovered from three lockers of Fiza Mohammad, estranged wife of Chander Mohan, former deputy chief minister of Haryana. Three bank lockers, one in Punjab and Sind Bank at Sector 47,Punjab National Bank Sector 17 and State Bank of Patiala in Punjab and Haryana High Court were opened by the Mohali Police today.

While the locker in the Sector 47 bank had jewellery worth over Rs 30 lakh, the High Court Bank locker contained Rs 49.99 lakh. The PNB locker had Rs 59.99 lakh. Mohali Police had recovered over Rs 92 lakhs and 1.5 kg jewellery from Fiza’s residence.

Meanwhile, reacting to Mohali Police’s claims that he was trying to get media publicity,Fiza’s aide Salim Alvi said,“I am not doing this for publicity. I now strongly suspect that Mohali Police is trying to shield a senior politician from whom Fiza feared a threat to her life”.

Alvi said from Bulandhshahr, “When a Mohali Police official had called me up in August,I had given my statement on phone as well and I stand by it till now. I fail to understand why Mohali Police is not recording my statement. It seems to be under pressure of politicians.”

Advocate Ranjan Lakhanpal, whom Fiza had approached for filing a case in the High Court seeking police protection, said,“If Mohali Police is really serious in investigating the case,it can get the statements recorded rather than inviting people to the police station.”
