Formerly bus stops, now places to dump garbage

HEMA THAKUR CHANDIGARH,February 2 OWING to the apathy of the UT Administration ,the bus stops in the city are in a pitiable state. At places the walls of the bus stops are broken, while at other places the seating arrangement is inadequate. In some sectors, condition have reached such a stage that the bus stops have become permanent homes for beggars, which creates a lot of problem for the passengers. Kamal,a resident of Sector 19,said that in the sector, the wall of the bus stop is broken, and the number of chairs provided for commuters is not sufficient. “During rainy season one can not stand here as there is nothing to stop the water from entering the bus stop. While bus stops have been built no attention has been given towards their maintenance,” he said. Similar conditions can be witnessed at bus stops of Sectors 15,18,27 and 31. Due to lack of supervision in Sector 18,a beggar has found a home at the bus stop. In some sectors the cement seats have been broken and not repaired. Even the chairs installed at the newly constructed bus stops are broken. This leaves no space for the residents to sit while waiting for their buses. Simultaneously,no heed is being paid to the cleanness of the bus stops. Garbage can usually be seen lying scattered on the floor and around the bus stops. “The condition of the bus stops is not satisfactory. Even the workers employed for the cleanness of the sector do nothing. The chairs are broken and the wall has started to deteriorate. This show the inefficiency of the authorities,” said Vikas,a local resident.
