Had rung up lawyer on July 29 asking him to go ahead with petition

Fiza Mohammad was to move the Punjab and Haryana High Court, apprehending a threat to her life and liberty allegedly from Member of Parliament Kuldeep Bishnoi. Fiza had consulted her lawyer friends to file a petition in the High Court seeking police protection. After having consulted a couple of lawyers, she had finally decided that she would file a petition against Bishnoi. Bishnoi, brother of Chander Mohan alias Chand Mohammad,ex-husband of Fiza,is a Lok Sabha member from Hisar. He is the chief of Haryana Janhit Congress.

Sources revealed that after taking legal advice on the issue,Fiza alias Anuradha Bali had approached a lawyer of the High Court. Fiza had met Advocate Ranjan Lakhanpal on July 28 and rang him up on July 29 at 11:19 am. She had said that she would come and support the petition with her affidavit. Fiza was last seen by her neighbours on August 2. Sources disclosed that Fiza had told her close friends and lawyers that she was receiving threatening calls from Bishnoi’s supporters. Fiza had decided to stage a protest at each and every one of Bishnoi’s public gatherings.

When contacted,Advocate Ranjan Lakhanpal confirmed that Fiza had taken legal advice from him to file a petition against Bishnoi and that she had rung him up on July 29,asking him to go ahead with the petition. “She had contacted me to file a petition in the High Court as she was apprehending a threat to her life,” Lakhanpal said.

Asked about the reason, the lawyer said that Fiza had stated that she had decided to enter politics and oppose Bishnoi,Chander Mohan alias Chand Mohammad and their party workers. Fiza had openly been claiming at public gatherings that she would oppose Bishnoi and his party. She had even claimed that her friends and neighbours had been instigated against her at the behest of Bishnoi.

While Kuldeep Bishnoi was unavailable for comments, his cousin Devi Lal said that he was speaking on his behalf. Lal said,“It is not yet decided whether it is a case of murder, suicide or natural death. It should first be established; then cause of death be ascertained. In case of foul play, the guilty should be punished. He will be ready to cooperate if the situation arises.” Voicing similar fears,a member of NGO Fiza-e-hind,Salim Alwi from Bulandshaher, today claimed that Fiza had rang him up and shared the apprehension. But no such statement has been given to Mohali Police. “We have not gotten any statement or complaint in this regard so far,” said Mohali SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar.

Meanwhile,Mohali Police today visited the hotel in Industrial Area where Fiza and her lawyer friend

Inderjit Singh Hooda had snacks. After having a cheese toast,Fiza and Hooda had left for her house at around 7:15 pm. Fiza had got pakoras packed. Her house was today inspected by a team of FSL members and the two cars belonging to Fiza (Santro and Honda CRV) were taken into possession. The two vehicles were taken to the police station for inspection. From one of the vehicles,a half-filled bottle and a plastic glass have been recovered. The house was videographed today by the team.

It has also come to light that Fiza’s family members had a history of brain haemorrhage and high blood pressure. Doctors have confirmed that Fiza was suffering from high blood pressure and was on heavy medication. Fiza was undergoing treatment and consulting a doctor at GMCH-32. Doctors suspect that a combination of heavy medicine (including sedatives) with alcohol may have proved fatal for Fiza.

Today the police again quizzed Fiza’s uncle Satpal and her lawyer friend Inderjit Singh Hooda. Another friend of hers,Advocate Dilip Mahajan, too was called by the cops.
