Five get life term for Sirsa murder,fined Rs 10,000 each

A local court,on Thursday,sentenced a man and four of his sons to life in prison,after it found them guilty of murder.

A local court,on Thursday,sentenced a man and four of his sons to life in prison,after it found them guilty of murder. The court of Neelima Shangla,Additional Sessions Judge,Sirsa awarded rigorous life imprisonment to Himmat Singh,Gurmail Singh,Kimat Singh,Darshan Singh and their father Babu Singh,on charges of murder.

The case dates back to February 3,2010 when a Sirsa resident,Jagdish was allegedly murdered by the accused over an old enmity between Jagdish and Himmat Singh’s families. Himmat Singh’s brother-in-law Kuldeep Singh was allegedly having an affair with Jagdish’s niece Naresh Kumar,who belonged to a different caste. Kuldeep Singh allegedly abducted Naresh Kumari and married her leading to hostility between the two families,which eventually resulted in Jagdish’s murder.

The sessions court on Thursday also took into account the criminal history of the accused. “The accused – Himmat Singh,Gurmail Singh,Kimat Singh and Darshan Singh- also murdered their grand-father Partap Singh. Gurmail Singh has also been involved in terrorist activities. On February 3,2010,Himmat Singh came in his jeep to kill Jagdish. He was accompanied by the other four accused. They waited for Jagdish and when he came on his bicycle from the fields,accused Himmat Singh attacked Jagdish with his jeep and dragged him for about 45 feet,due to which Jagdish collapsed on the spot. All the accused to ensure that Jagdish did not survive,attacked him with iron rods and sticks,resulting in his death”,reads the the order pronounced by Judge Neelima Shangla.

The court further directed all the accused to pay a fine of Rs10,000 each. Besides this,the court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 each on all the five accused and in default of payment of fine,the accused shall undergo three years rigorous imprisonment,in addition to their sentence. “The total amount of fine,on realisation,shall be given as compensation to the widow of the deceased “,the court ordered.
