Two persons were killed on Sunday in separate road accidents,taking the toll of fatal accidents to five in just two weeks. As per official figures,57 cases of fatal accidents have been registered till June 30 this year.

In the first accident reported on Sunday,a 25-year-old labourer died after a speeding truck with registration number (HR-68-5910) rammed the cycle he was riding. The deceased was identified as Awdesh,a resident of Colony No. 4. Police said,after hitting the cyclist the truck driver fled from the spot leaving the truck behind. Awdesh,who suffered serious head injuries,was rushed to GMCH-32,where he was declared dead on arrival.

In another fatal accident,a resident of Shimla succumbed to his injuries after being hit by a motorcycle. Nishu Verma,the deceased,was crossing Sector 45/46 dividing road around 4.15 pm,when a motorcyclist hit Verma and fled. Verma,22,who suffered head injuries was rushed to GMCH-32.

He was later shifted to Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research,where he succumbed to

his injuries.

Apart from this,the city in the past two weeks witnessed three fatal road accidents. On August 19,a 55-year-old security guard was killed by an SUV,while he was riding on his cycle. Gurdev Singh,the deceased,was hit by the SUV at Rock Garden turn. He was taken to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH),Sector 16 where he was declared dead on arrival.

On August 23,a 13-year-old boy was killed after being hit by a car. Himanshu,the deceased,was riding on his cycle when he was hit by a speeding car in Sector 42. Himanshu succumbed to his injuries at GMCH -32.

On August 26,around 7.15 am,a 62-year-old woman was hit by a car from the side at Sector 24/25 dividing road,while she was riding pillion on a scooter.

Harbant Kaur,the deceased,was taken to GMSH-16,where she succumbed to her injuries.
