Ferozepur rice mill owners booked for Rs 2-cr fraud

Ferozepur police has booked owners of Ganpati Rice Mill located in Mudki.

Acting on a complaint by the Punjab Agro Grain Corporation Limited,the Ferozepur police has booked owners of Ganpati Rice Mill — located in Mudki — for allegedly being involved in doing fraud worth more than Rs 2.16 crore. According to Ferozepur SSP Hardial Singh Mann,in 2010-11,Ganpati Rice Mill was given an order to deposit 49,653 bags of A grade rice at FCI godowns in Punjab Agro’s name by March 31. However,this was not done. Following an inquiry,it was found that 3,938 quintals and 63 kg of rice — worth Rs 79.02 lakh — were missing from the rice mill’s godown. In another case,in 2010-11,the Punjab Warehousing Corporation had given the mill 88,765 bags of paddy — measuring 31067.75 quintals — to be converted into rice and deposited at FCI godowns by March 31. Nothing was done in this regard as well. An inquiry into this has found that 10238.55 quintals of paddy — worth Rs 1.37 crore — were missing from rice mill.
