Fernandes inaugurates PU helpdesk amidst protests

Amidst protest by students’ outfits,the Union Minister for Transport and Highway Minister Oscar Fernandes inaugurated the helpdesk of National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) at the Panjab University campus on Wednesday.

Amidst protest by students’ outfits,the Union Minister for Transport and Highway Minister Oscar Fernandes inaugurated the helpdesk of National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) at the Panjab University campus on Wednesday.

Besides NSUI affiliates,other party members also surrounded the minister’s car to register their protest.

The students gave the police a tough time. Activists of various parties raised slogans against the minister also.

President,Students Federation of India (SFI),Prabhpreet Singh,said,“Help desk is a university matter. We fail to understand how NSUI asked a minister to inaugurate the desk. It is against the rules that varsity believes in. No outsider is allowed to participate in PU’s affairs,but today the campus was full of outsiders.”

Fernandes termed the PU as a temple of learning and said,“We have to come to the university to support students.”

About the disaster at Uttarakhand,Fernandes said that they also want that India should act like America during a situation when any natural calamity hits the country. He added that repair work in Uttarakhand will begin soon.

Moreover,the help desk of PUSU was also inaugurated by its founder-member,Jaskaran Singh Brar.

Later,the Vice-Chancellor,Prof Arun K Grover,along with other authorities welcomed Fernandes at the PU Guest House. While discussing various issues with the V-C and others,Fernandes assured all support to the university. He asked the PU officers to provide a note on the pending issues with the Government of India.
