In yet another death on city roads,a 50-year-old man was killed after he was crushed by a car on the dividing road of Sector 34 and 44 on Thursday morning. The deceased has been identified as Guru Prashad,a resident of Colony No 5.
The deceased who was a native of Bihar is survived by his wife and eight children,the youngest being only eight years old.
According to police,the deceased was a cigarette vendor. On Thursday morning at around 8 am,Prashad was setting up his small stall next to Sector 34 road. While he was busy in his work,a Santro being driven by a Sector 34 resident Ritu Diwan,got onto the footpath and crushed him against a tree. Ritu,who is a teacher in a government school in Derabassi,reportedly told the police the accident occurred as she accidentally pressed the car accelerator instead of the brake.
He was severely injured in the accident and was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH-32). However,the doctors declared him brought dead. The body has been kept at the hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The deceased has six daughters and two sons. His two daughters and a son have been married. His wife and elder daughter work as domestic helps.
A case has been registered at the Sector 34 Police Station against Ritu for causing death due to negligence. She has been arrested.
