Long queues and chaos were witnessed as parents thronged different schools on Tuesday the last date for submission of forms for admission to entry-level classes. With each school having a different time for accepting the forms, parents who had applied at more than one place spent the entire day making rounds of schools.
At the end of it all, some schools received forms five times the number of seats available.
Being the last day for submission of the entry-level admission forms, not only the parents but the school staff were also busy accepting, rejecting and compiling the forms.
Most private schools witnessed a heavy rush from morning to evening. The submission process ended by 4 pm in all the schools.
The major crowd was seen at the four missionary schools: Carmel Convent School,Sector 9,Sacred Heart Sector 26,St Johns and St Annes. Though these schools had already extended their last date from December 10 to December 19,confusion prevailed as many parents gathered at the school gate one hour in advance to submit their forms.
The parents had to face a lot of problems with regard to the timings followed by different schools and details of the documents needed to be attached along with the form. I specially came from Panchkula to submit the admission form of my daughter in three schools,Strawberry Fields,Sacred Heart and Carmel Convent. Strawberry accepts forms from 9 to 12 while Carmel and Sacred Heart accept from 3-4 pm. I would have to come back again to submit forms at Carmel and Sacred Heart, said Anjana Grewal, one of the hassled parents.
The schools should have had at least two-three counters to manage the crowd. The person sitting at the counter takes 15 minutes with each parent, which means if there are 20-30 people, the admission process would take five hours. It is sheer harassment. The education department should make the entire process online,so that we can submit the forms sitting at home, said Raj Jog Marwaha, another parent.
As per the records of the schools, some of them received admission forms five times the number of seats available. Delhi Public School,Sector 40,which has 150 seats for pre-primary classes, received approximately 800 registration forms while Vivek High School received 600 forms against 95 seats. A few schools are yet to compile the data.
While most of the schools were already accepting the admission forms for the EWS category students, some will start a separate admission process for them from December 25. The last date for the submission of the EWS category admission forms at KB DAV,Sector 7,is December 29. The first list of the selected students will be displayed at the school on January 18.
Though the form submission process will continue till December 20 at Strawberry Fields School, the school has been receiving forms since November 25. At Saupins School, however, the last date is December 12.
