A local court on Tuesday confiscated the driving licence of a man for two months,after he was caught driving his vehicle in an inebriated condition. The court also imposed a penalty of Rs 5,000. Khushnihal Singh,around 25 years old,who was challaned for the third time for drink driving on December 2,has been warned by the court that next time his license will be canceled permanently.
Singh,a resident of Sector 35,Chandigarh,was earlier challaned on two occasions – March 3 and October 15 – for the same offence.
While awarding the punishment,the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate,Rajnish K Sharma observed,This type of violation is on high graph these days. The violator is incurring risk to his life as well as to the lives of others. Therefore,the violator who was taking liquor while driving and has violated the traffic rule time and again,is to be dealt with severely and is to be punished accordingly.
The same court last week on December 3 confiscated the license of a local for one month,for driving in an inebriated condition. The accused,Jaswinder Singh,was challaned for the second time for drink driving.
On October 17,a resident of Mohali was made to stand till rising of the court as a punishment for driving in an inebriated condition. The accused,Gursharan Singh,was challaned for the third time. On October 16,another man accused of drink driving was awarded a similar punishment by the court. Shohbit Gupta,a resident of Sector 32,was challaned thrice for drink driving and was told to stand till rising of the court. Al the offenders were also penalised accodingly.
