Three persons were killed and four injured on Tuesday after a school van collided with a private bus near Kharar.
One student,Mehakbir Singh (15),and van driver Harinder Singh (35) of Indus Public School died on the spot. Another student,Harpreet Singh (12),succumbed to his injuries at PGI later in the evening. He had sustained severe head injuries. Two injured students were admitted to PGI,while the other injured were taken to Kharar Civil Hospital.
Doctors said Inderveer Singh,a student,was out of danger and was undergoing treatment at Kharar Civil Hospital. However,11-year-old Amanpreet Singh (brother of Harpreet) and Iqbalpreet Singh (13) were critically injured and were rushed to the Advanced Trauma Centre of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER).
The accident took place around 7 am,when a private bus rammed into a school bus at Mamupur village,near the Ludhiana-Morindia highway. As per available information,at Mamupur village road,when the driver was trying to reverse the vehicle,a private bus,which was on its way to Ludhiana,rammed into it.
PGI officials said,The students were brought to the hospital around 8.30am and were in a very critical condition. Harpreet (who died in the evening) and Amanpreet had fractures through out their body. Iqbalpreet sustained head injuries.
Amanpreet and Harpreets father Bhupinder Singh works at a sugar mill in Morinda. A few months back,he had met with an accident and had just recovered from the brain injury.
Principal,vice-principal and teachers of Indus Public School were present at PGIMER. Vice-principal Kulvir Singh said,It is hard to believe what has happened. All these students were bright. It is a very unfortunate incident.
Earlier,SDM Sukhjeet Pal Singh and former Kharar MLA Jaggar Singh Wadali visited the parents. SDM assured them of financial help.
The Kharar Police has registered a case against the driver of the private bus. He was arrested from the spot.
