It was a day of double delight for Abhijot as the young shuttler claimed the U-17 boys’ singles title as well as boys’ doubles title on the concluding day of the 8th Ashwani Gupta Memorial badminton Championship at Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex on Tuesday. Abhijot first claimed the U-17 boys’ singles title with a 21-19,17-21,21-18 win over Ayush Gautam. The youngster clinched the first game with a 21-19 win before Gautam registered a comeback and won the second game with a 21-17 margin. The third game was a narrow one as Abhijot won the game with a 21-18 margin to claim the title. In the U-17 boys’ doubles final,Abhijot teamed up with Ayush to register a 21-12,21-18 win over Viraj and Shubham. Abhijot/Ayush first grabbed the opening game with a 21-12 margin before winning the second game with a 21-18 margin to bag the title. In the boys’ U-13 final,Anushrav Garg claimed the title with a 21-16,21-8 win over Shiraj Dutt. The first game saw Garg winning by a 21-16 margin before claiming the second game with a 21-8 verdict to clinch the title. It was easy going for the duo of Arushrav and Mohit as they ended the challenge of Rahul Sikka and Arush Dutta with a 21-10,21-15 win. Arushrav/Mohit first claimed the first game with a 21-10 margin before winning the second game with a 21-15 margin to claim the title. In the girls’ U-13 singles final,it was a day of joy for Chavi Kanwar as she registered a 21-16,21-18 win over Rashi Vashisht to claim the title. Kanwar first pocketed the first game with a 21-16 margin before winning the second game 21-18 to bag the title. In the boys’ U-10 singles final,Aarush Dutta emerged as the winner with a 21-13,21-14 win over Sidharth. Dutta first won the first game 21-13 before clinching the second game with a 21-14 difference. In the girls’ U-10 singles final,Ayushi emerged as the champion with a 18-21,21-17,21-17 win over Devika Sihag. It was a damp opening for Ayushi as she lost the first game with a 18-21 margin. The next two games saw Ayushi winning 21-17,21-17 respectively to emerge as the champion in her category. In the +45 Doubles final,the duo of Jatinder Mahajan and Jatinder Mehta emerged as the winners with a 21-15,21-18 win over Vikas Mehta and Pardeep Jaiswal. Mahajan/Mehta first won the first game with a 21-15 margin before grabbing the second game 21-18 margin to take the title.
