The 26-year-old dalit woman,who had set herself on fire on Thursday after accusing a former village sarpanch of harassing her,succumbed to her injuries on Friday. Amandeep Kaur,a resident of Dhudi village had alleged that constant harassment at the hands of former sarpanch Gurlabh Singh had forced her to take the extreme step. The mother of a three-year-old,suffered 90 per cent burns and breathed her last at the Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital on Friday.
While no arrests have been made so far,the police have booked the former sarpanch and Kaurs statement was recorded by a judicial magistrate.
Kaur alleged that Gurlabh was close to a senior Akali leader of the area. She had reportedly raised the matter in the village panchyat,which had issued a strict warning to Gurlabh.
