Acting on a petition filed by a Tibet national Dolma Bhuti, the Punjab and Haryana High Court,on Tuesday, issued notices to the Himachal government, asking it to respond to the petition in which Bhuti sought directions from PGI to perform her kidney transplant surgery.

21-year old Dolma Bhuti,a Tibet national currently residing in Himachal,is suffering from renal failure and requires a kidney.

A Buddhist monk,Nawang Choeden, has offered to donate one of his kidneys for transplantation to save Dolma’s life. However, owing to stringent conditions governing the transplant of kidneys,a list of 18 documents have been demanded from Dolma by PGI in order to carry out the transplantation. Not being able to comply with this demand,Dolma had moved the High Court, seeking directions for an immediate surgery. Dolma’s counsel has claimed that her condition is critical as she has to undergo dialysis four to five times a week.

The bench, last week, had issued notices to the UT administration, which sought time to respond to the petition. Meanwhile,PGI,which was issued notices by the High Court last week,in its reply today stated that PGI authorities will not be able to perform the transplant until the Himachal government and the Tibet Association give their go-ahead.

“I came to know about Dolma’s condition from an article pasted outside the temple wall. Realising the gravity of the situation I contacted her within two days,” said Nawang, who is a Buddhist monk-philosopher at Dzongsar Khyentse Chokyi Lodro Institute, district Mandi,Himachal Pradesh.

The high court will resume the case on June 27.
