Cop who shot dead wife discharged, arrested later

Deputy Superintendent of Police (central) Ashish Kapoor said that the accused was yet to be questioned by the police.

Constable Anand Kumar who shot dead his wife in full public view at Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, before he turned the pistol at himself last week was arrested after he was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday. The accused will be produced before the magistrate on Wednesday.

The accused was arrested at 1 pm. Deputy Superintendent of Police (central) Ashish Kapoor said that the accused was yet to be questioned by the police.

Anand was taken to the police station from a backdoor exit of the block where he was admitted to avoid the photojournalists who were waiting for him to be brought out. The police will be questioning him on the actual facts and sequence of events.
Anand was also suspended and a regular departmental inquiry was ordered against him. Senior Superintendent of Police (Security) Maneesh Chaudhry confirmed the same.

Anand had been admitted to the hospital since Friday when the incident occurred. He underwent a minor surgical procedure on Monday to remove a part of the bullet from his shoulder.
