The Chandigarh Administration has finally appointed a contractor to manage the car parking at ISBT Sector 43,Chandigarh,for a period of one year up to March 10,2014.

This it informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court during the hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Advocate H C Arora.

An affidavit was filed by P P Singh Phoolka,IAS,Director,Transport Undertaking,Chandigarh, stating that the U T Administration has appointed the contractor on April 11 for managing the car parking at ISBT Sector 43,Chandigarh,for a period of one year up to March 10,2014.

In the PIL,the petitioner had sought directions to the U T Administration to make proper security arrangements for the car parking place in ISBT,Sector 43,Chandigarh,because for about three months, there was no contractor at the parking place, though hundreds of cars are parked there every day.

There was thus an apprehension of theft of cars, since the place is left without ensuring any security at the parking place. Besides, the parking of cars without there being any attendant left them open to a security risk.

Satisfied with the affidavit submitted by the U T Administration on Monday in the High court, the case was closed, with the petitioner expressing his satisfaction with the response of the U T Administration.
