A day after Gulzar Singh Ranike stepped down from Punjab cabinet on “moral grounds”,his former personal assistant Sarbdyal Singh, who is facing a vigilance inquiry for “misappropriation of public funds”,has contended that the case against him was registered by the police at the “instance of some senior political leaders” who “planned a conspiracy to ruin the political career of the minister”and all the persons associated with him.

Sarbdyal,in an anticipatory bail application, filed before an Amritsar court on September 10,also claimed innocence and said he had been made a “scapegoat” in the case and had “nothing to do with the controversy in question”. “Merely on the basis of suspicion the name of present applicant has been dragged in the present controversy,” the application filed by Sarbdyal through his counsel A K Vermani reads.
