A day before the Himachal Assembly session is to end,Chief Prem Kumar Dhumal on Thursday introduced four bills in the House seeking a hike in the salaries and allowances of all the states legislators and ministers. The hike,proposed in the bill,is almost up to Rs 21,000 a month and those likely to be benefited include the speaker,deputy speaker,chief parliamentary secretaries and parliamentary secretaries,besides former MLAs drawing pensions.
The bill proposes an increase of over Rs 21,000 per month in the emoluments of MLAs which includes a hike in salary and constituency allowance from Rs 15,000 and Rs 20,000 to Rs 20,000 and Rs 35,000 per month respectively. The water and electricity charges will be raised from Rs 1,500 to Rs 3,000 and travelling allowance from Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 per day,said a cabinet minister. The minimum pension of ex-MLAs would be raised from Rs 14,000 to Rs 18,000 per month. The hike would entail an expenditure of Rs 3.30 crore per annum on the state exchequer.
The chief ministers salary would be increased by Rs 5,000 from Rs 34,000 to Rs 39,000,while that of ministers from Rs 31,000 to Rs 36,000,ministers of state from Rs 28,000 to Rs 33,000,that of the chief parliamentary secretary from Rs 18,000 to Rs 23,000 and parliamentary secretary from Rs 17,000 to Rs 22,000 per month.
