Having been mooted over the past few years, the projects of the Municipal Corporation for Sector 17 have failed to materialise. The civic body is now in the process to revive some of these proposals. From beautification of the area near the Bridge Market to installing swings, none of the proposals have seen the light of day.
At a meeting held recently,a discussion was held to develop a kids corner in the sector with swings and a toy train in order to provide entertainment to children. A similar proposal had been mooted around two years back.
A mini-amusement park was to be set up in Sector 17. However, amidst objections being raised, the proposal was shot down.
The kids corner is now proposed to be set up at a park near the Bridge Market as part of the beautification process, which has been pending for some time. The proposal was initially mooted in 2009. Since then it has been hitting one roadblock after the other.
The construction work had begun, but stalled after an alleged cement scam was unearthed. It was realised that the contractor who had been allotted the contract for the work had further sublet the contract which was against the norms.
Following this, work was stalled for some months. When the tender was floated again,no contractor came forward.
Finally, the civic body decided to undertake the work on its own. It is,however, yet to be completed. A few days ago,the area was inspected by the area councillor Pardeep Chhabra and MC officials to see the pace of work.
A multi-level parking lot that was proposed to be constructed in the sector is under arbitration while the proposal for another one has recently been passed. Chhabra said he had inspected the work that was being undertaken and the officials had been asked to expedite the proceedings.
