Kochar finishes joint second

Local golfer Karandeep Kochar finished second in category B on the final day of the Indian golf Union Haryana Juniors Golf Championship. Kochar shaed the second spot with Karan Sharma as they finished the championship with a 4-day total of 307. Kartik Sharma emerged as the winner in the category while Arjun Puri (317) was fourth,followed by Tanvir Kahlon and Jaiveer Singh,who shared the fifth place at 318.

ITF tourney from April 29

Puneet Gupta has been appointed International Tennis Federation (ITF) supervisor for the ITF men’s Futures $ 15,000 tennis tournament to be hosted by the Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association from April 29 to May 5 at the Sector 10 Tennis Complex. Dr Jasjit Singh has been appointed the tournament director. The qualifying matches will be played on April 27 and 28 and the draw for singles will be of 48. The main draw of 32 will begin on April 28 and the sign-in-deadline is April 26 at 6 p.m.

Bedi qualifies for World Junior Masters

Chandigarh golfer Aadil Bedi has qualified for the World Masters of Junior Golf to be held at Las Vegas,USA later this year. Bedi won the title in the Golf Championship in Ambala and topped the IGU Merit list which made him eligible for the tournament. “I am happy that I have qualified for the tournament. This win was my second of the season and I expect to carry forward the winning momentum,” shared the youngster.

Smriti misses cut

India’s Smriti Mehra missed the cut even as Japanese professionals Yumika Adachi and Orie Fujino moved into first and second places after the second round of the USD 200,000 Yumeya Dream Cup in Japan. Smriti,who shot 80 on first day,scored 77 in the second and missed the cut by five shots.

Spanish coach to hold clinic at CLTA

Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association has arranged a three-week coaching camp for budding tennis players- both boys and girls- at CLTA Tennis Stadium from May 7. According to Dr Jasjit Singh,secretary,CLTA,the camp will be conducted by the top professional from Spain,Juan Carlos Andrade who is a former ATP player. While the special coaching camp would be for trainees at CLTA,a limited number of slots are available for players from outside CLTA.
