City horse rider clinches gold medal

Sandhu was selected for the Indian national team to compete in the event organised by Federation Equestre Internationale.

City horse-rider Gurbaz Sandhu,trained at the Chandigarh Horse Riders Society (CHRS),won the Gold medal (Bronze Category) at the Federation Equestre Internationale Children’s International Classic-2013 held from October 4-6 .

Sandhu,along with Rithwik Thakur,was selected for the Indian national team to compete in the event organised by Federation Equestre Internationale,an international governing body for all Olympic equestrian disciplines.

Both the boys were also felicitated by Shiv Raj Patil,Governor of Punjab and UT Administrator at Raj Bhavan on Thursday.

CHRS,a non-profit organisation,was formed 10 years ago by volunteers from the city. The objective was to promote equestrian activity in the area. CHRS has also been running a riding academy at the Lake Club with the co-operation of the Chandigarh Administration.

The academy,which has so far trained 450 people,provides training in jumps,hacks and tent pegging.
