CHANDIGARH: On Teacher’s Day,the Guest Teachers’ Union (GTU) held a protest rally on Thursday claiming the education department does not treat them at par with contractual teachers. The GTU president said salaries of both the contractual and guest teachers was Rs 15,000,but the department increased the salaries of contractual teachers to Rs 26,900,while guest teachers were still being paid Rs 15,000. The union is expected to submit its demands to the Administration soon.

LIC celebrates Environment Day

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh division of the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) celebrated ‘Environment Day’ on Thursday as part of its 57th Anniversary and Insurance Week celebrations with a special drive for tree plantation being initiated in Chandigarh and all other branches. Tree saplings were planted by L C Meena,Senior Divisional Manager,Chandigarh Division along with other managers and officials. “This initiative was aimed at saving the environment and extending efforts to render maximum greenery in our surroundings,” said Meena.

Chitkara Univ to set up centre of excellence

CHANDIGARH: Chitkara University,on Thursday,announced the setting up of a ‘Laboratory for Advanced Design and Development in Engineering Research’ (LADDER),at its Chandigarh campus with support from Dassault Systemes and its partner Tata Technologies. Vice-chancellor Madhu Chitkara initiated the university’s alliance with the companies. The varsity will provide hands-on training to participants using Dassault Systemes Version 6 technology,intended to enhance employability of engineering graduates. Also,the centre intends to promote conceptual and academic projects to be led by experienced faculty from Tata Technologies. ENSGTU
